"The report ranks countries on six key variables that support well-being: income, freedom, trust, healthy life expectancy, social support and generosity."

It's not like they've asked about it from anyone.. Yes, we are darn happy, paying the highest taxes around skandinavia and leading on the suicide statistics too.. Why not happy - after all we have (if lucky) maybe 15 warm days during the year and life is wonderful living "next door" to Putin... Just look at a "famous finn"; Kimi Räikkönen - the guy just can't stop smiling...

I despise surveys, top 10's, polls, and statistics to analyze anything as they are often a matter of garbage in and garbage out. I asked my cats the same question and 2 out of 3 agree.

There's something about happiness and Scandinavia, or is it just the cold? It may be in the water, but it may be in the vodka.

I think all of Scandinavia values happiness over money. What a concept. Ahhh, maybe someday it could magically happen here ... and then we would be a happy people.

According to the WHO study in 2015, Finland's suicide rate was 35th in the world. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are ahead of you.

Are they still surveying countries? Or are the surveyors satisfied with the Finnish’d results?

I question any correlation between suicide rates and levels of happiness.

If you're raised in a culture where you're taught not to expect to be happy, when you find you're not happy, you just continue along as normal.

But if you DO live in a country that's supposed to be engineered to favor happiness over wealth and so on, and you're STILL not happy, what do you do? Emigrate to where unhappiness is accepted as normal, or, let those with a lust for life have more room to do their thing.

If you live in a culture where money and power are #1, and you can't get there, you might seek happiness instead. If you live somewhere where happiness is the be all and end all, and that's not attainable, what's your next choice? There it is.
