My wife and I arrived in Edinburgh today for our 20th anniversary vacation. This is the view out our window:

What a gorgeous city — Tonight, a good local pub and tomorrow, the Royal Mile!

So fun, and we only just got here. And, the people are wonderful. What a great place for a vacation!

Have you met anyone who speaks English?
My friends do England and Paris one year and England and Scotland the next. They too have a great time all over Scotland.
No lack of history and a story no matter which way you turn.

English? You mean Chinese isn’t the national language of Scotland?

I don't know if this is what he means, but -

I understand the thickest British and Irish accents. Scottish accents often require I pay very close attention.

Cool! Jeanne and I went there a couple of years back along with visiting Dublin and Northern Ireland to visit her family. Great fun. First time I drove on the left side of the road. Clipped a bus with the car mirror :)

Scottish accents aren’t much of an issue for me. (Years of reading Robert Burns probably helps.) But, you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a Chinese tourist here!

Glad you like it, gorgeous city as you say. You might want to think about doing the National museum in Chambers St and possibly the Scottish National gallery if you like art tomorrow and leaving the outdoor stuff until Saturday. Both within 10 minutes walk from your hotel.

Mate, get a good Lawyer ( if there is such a thing!).

Taking a holiday and being accommodated in front of a 700 yr old slum ...... That's outrageous!

I understand that glasgow has some nice tenements to visit!

Don't fret, 100 miles South and you hit civilisation!

100 miles south of Edinburgh actually takes you to a place called Hartlepool, please feel free on behalf of the entire Scottish nation to visit there anytime you like, just don't tell them your name is Tonemonkey, might not end well for you.

That was short and sweet, hope you managed to see all you wanted. Though it maybe for the best as Scotland has one of your hurricanes due to hit on Monday (though only a storm by then).
